For over five decades, Edan Milton Hughes researched and collected Early California Art. His three-volume “Artists in California, 1786-1940” is the standard reference book on the subject.

Until his passing in 2015, he collected some of the most well-regarded Early California artists. Many pieces from his collection were bequeathed to the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, California, in a gallery there that bears his name.

This website is offering many other paintings that Edan Hughes collected over the course of his life. Additional images will be added over time. All reasonable offers will be considered.

Please enjoy browsing through these images and artist biographies, all of which were written and researched by Edan Hughes.
